On October 13, 2011, the simTD and DRIVE C2X projects jointly invited car-to-x experts to the first event of the DRIVE C2X test site campaign "Making cooperative systems cooperate". The Rhine-Main area is one of the seven test sites for the European field trial for cooperative systems, DRIVE C2X. More than 100 participants joined the event at the simTD test grounds in Friedberg near Frankfurt/Main.
A test fleet of 21 vehicles equipped with the car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure communication system developed by simTD was at hand for the participants. This so-called car-to-x communication system will be tested under real traffic conditions in the Rhine-Main area starting in 2012. The car-to-x communication system was not only presented in driving demonstrations but also through poster sessions and simulators.
The second part of the event was dedicated to workshop sessions. Here the guiding principle was to compare the simTD approach with oter national Field Operational Tests (FOTs) and to discuss the pan-European dimension of the selected approaches.
